Re: Candidate Application for 2025 Asian Taekwondo Union Election

Dear ATU Colleagues,

We send you our warmest greetings from the Asian Taekwondo Union.

The ATU is pleased to announce that the ATU Council Meeting and General Assembly will be held in Kuching, Malaysia on July 24, 2025. This event will also include the 2025 ATU Elections to elect Council members who will lead the ATU for the 2025-2029 term. Detailed information regarding the ATU Election is as follows:

1) Positions: The following officials shall be elected:

One (1) President; Two (2) Vice-Presidents; Eight (8) Council Members; One (1) Auditor

2) Age limit for Elected Officials: The age limit to be a candidate for elected Council Member is less than seventy (70) years old on the day of election, except for members incumbent prior to the 2021 elections, for whom the age limit for candidacy is eighty (80). An official who has reached the age limit is not eligible to run.

-   Candidates must be born after July 25, 1955 (i.e., under 70 years old on election day)

-  Exception: Candidates who were in office as of the 2021 elections* may run if they are born after July 25, 1945 (i.e., under 80 years old).

*That is, candidates who were first elected in 2021 or later must comply with the

standard age limit of 70.

3) MNA Nominations: A candidate to become an Elected Official must be nominated by a Level I MNA of which the candidate holds the nationality or residence. Current officials are eligible for reelection to their current position or to any other position within the Council without this MNA nomination.

There is no limit to the number of candidates that a Level I MNA may nominate, however, candidates should seek only the minimum number of nominations required, in order to avoid campaign activity disguised as nomination solicitation.

4) Election Committee Eligibility: Members of the Ad-Hoc Election Committee should not be candidates in the election, as this would constitute a clear and inappropriate conflict of interest.

5) Promotion of Female Council Member to Vice President: The highest voted female Council Member shall be promoted to Vice President. In terms of term limit, hers shall count as a Council Member.

6) Elected Vice Presidents: The two (2) elected Vice Presidents other than the highest voted   female Council member shall be from a different MNA.

7) Application: If you are interested to run for election to become an ATU official (President, Vice-President, Council Member, or Auditor), you must fill out and return the Candidate Application Form along with all required documents to admin@asiantu.org in accordance with the instructions of the application.

8) Deadline: The application deadline is May 24 (Saturday), 2025 at 11:59 pm (Local time in Korea).

9) Information Distribution: The information of candidates will be distributed on or before June 24, 2025.

If you have any questions regarding the matters on ATU Election, please do not hesitate to contact ATU Secretariat (admin@asiantu.org).
